FAQ

Q: How much teaching experience do you have?
A: I have been teaching guitar for 18 years.

Q: Do you have performance experience?
A: Yes. My “rock star” days are over but for many years I played lead guitar in professional bands that recorded and gigged on a regular basis.

Q: Do you have CRB clearance to teach minors?
A: Yes. I have CRB clearance.

Q: Is there easy parking outside your home studio?
A: Yes, there is ample and unrestricted parking space outside my home studio.

Q: Is there a waiting area in your home/next to the studio?
A: Yes. Adjacent to my studio I provide a comfortable seating room with beverage making facilities and adjacent cloakroom facilities for early arrivals and/or parents who wish to wait during their children’s lessons.

Q: Can I take graded exams – even for electric guitar?
A: Yes. The Registry of Guitar Tutors, of which I am a member, organises internationally recognised examinations in electric, acoustic, classical and bass guitar - from total beginner to Diploma level - in partnership with London College of Music Exams and certificated by Thames Valley University. All RGT graded exams are accredited by the Qualifications & Curriculum Authority (QCA), and UCAS points are available for grades 6-8. So, if required by the student (or student’s parent), I can tailor lessons to follow an RGT curriculum as well as assisting overall with the exam process and preparation.

Q: Do I have to bring my own equipment?
A: I have spares of everything and if you’re learning electric guitar you certainly don’t have to bring your own amp! But whatever guitar style you’re learning, I would always recommend that you bring your own guitar as it helps to be taught on the same instrument that you’ll be practicing on between lessons.

Q: Can you come and teach at the student’s house?
A: I generally prefer to teach from my own home studio. However, if travel is a real issue for you then I am always prepared to discuss alternative arrangements on a case by case basis.

Q: I might be interested in lessons. What do I do next?
